Why homeowners hire us for concrete in Newport Beach
When you hire a concrete crew, you should expect someone to look at the dirt and the drainage before talking about finishes, and to tell you plainly what your job needs.
Jobs with a catch, worked out
Slopes, tight side yards and walls needing a clean opening are jobs we like, so we work them out instead of turning them down. Builders and property managers call us for that too.
Permits and sign-offs sorted first
We find out what approvals your job needs, pull the permits for our part and book the city inspections. If an engineer has to sign off first, you'll hear it early, not halfway through.
Straight answers, even cheaper ones
If a cheaper option or another trade fits your job better, I'll tell you instead of selling you more concrete. Call (949) 691-0410 if you're not sure what yours needs.
Concrete work for the homes of Newport Beach
Newport Beach runs along the coast with more than eight miles of beaches from the Santa Ana River jetty to Crystal Cove State Park, all bordering Newport Bay. Most people here know Newport Pier and Balboa Pier, and plenty of them walk, bike or bird-watch at Upper Newport Bay, the county's nature preserve.
Behind all that are houses of every age and shape, and the yards that come with them. Near the water we often work in narrow lots and tight side yards, and on the hillier streets we see sloped yards that need a wall before a patio makes sense. Those are the jobs I like most, and you can read more about how we work and how I learned the trade.
Concrete contractor services in Newport Beach, CA
Homestead Newport Beach Concrete is a concrete contractor in Newport Beach doing 16 kinds of work, from driveways and patios to footings, foundations and clean cuts in existing walls. Most calls start with something you can see, like a cracked or sinking slab, water pooling by the house or a yard too steep to use. The price moves with the size and thickness of the slab, how much has to come out first, how easy the site is to reach and the finish you choose. The schedule turns on permits, any engineer sign-off and curing, the wait while new concrete hardens before you can use it. For your own number, I walk the job and give you the estimate in writing.
Concrete driveway building
We dig out and pack the base, then pour a new driveway thick enough for the cars and trucks you park on it.
Concrete patio construction
Want a place for chairs and a grill out back? We build concrete patios that slope water away from the house.
Stamped concrete services
Stamped concrete is pressed with a pattern while it's wet, so a patio or walk looks like stone, brick or tile.
Concrete sidewalk building
Front walk heaved or broken where people trip on it? We replace it with an even path to your door.
Garage floor concrete
We pour garage floors on a packed base, made for cars, tool chests, heavy shelving and years of oil drips.
Decorative concrete
Decorative concrete covers color, exposed stone and special finishes for homeowners who want the slab to match the house, not just cover the dirt.
Concrete retaining walls
Yard sliding toward the house or too steep to use? We build concrete retaining walls that hold the slope and let water drain through.
Concrete floor installation
We pour interior concrete floors for additions, workshops and ground-level rooms, finished smooth or ready for whatever floor covering goes on top.
Concrete pool decks
What makes a good pool deck? A surface with grip under wet feet that drains away from the pool and the house.
Concrete steps construction
We build concrete steps for front doors, patios and slopes, with every step the same height so nobody catches a toe.
Slab foundation building
A slab foundation is the concrete floor a house, addition or garage sits right on, poured over a dug-out, packed base.
Foundation installation
We build the foundations new homes, additions and garages stand on, set to the engineer's plans and the city's inspections.
Concrete parking lot building
For property managers and businesses, we build concrete parking lots with the thickness and drainage that daily traffic needs.
Concrete footings
Footings are the concrete pads and strips under walls, posts and decks, and they spread the weight so it doesn't sink into the ground.
Foundation raising
Doors sticking because part of the house settled? We raise the low section and say so if an engineer should look first.
Concrete cutting
Need a doorway cut in a concrete wall or a trench in a slab? We saw clean, straight openings.

Questions about concrete in Newport Beach
Here are the answers to what people ask me most at the estimate, from cost to cracks. If yours isn't here, call or send the form and ask about your own job.
How much does a new concrete driveway cost in Newport Beach?
There's no fair number until I've seen the driveway, because the tear-out, the base work and the access change from one house to the next. The finish matters too, since a broom finish, light grooves dragged across the wet surface for grip, usually costs less than stamped or colored concrete. Call and I'll come out and put a number in writing.
Why is one concrete quote so much cheaper than another?
Usually the difference is in the base, the packed layer under the slab that nobody sees once the concrete is down. Raking the dirt level costs less than digging it out and packing it, but a slab on loose dirt settles with it and cracks. If the budget's tight, I'd rather you cut back on the finish than the base, because you can dress up a good slab later but you can't fix what's under it without tearing it out.
How long will I be without my driveway after new concrete is poured?
That depends mostly on the curing wait, and you'll be walking on new concrete well before you can park on it. Tear-out and base work come before the pour, and if the city has to inspect, it usually wants a day or two of notice. The property owner is responsible for making sure inspections happen, but the contractor can book them, and we do.
Does a concrete contractor need a license to work in Newport Beach?
Yes, every business working in Newport Beach, including contractors based in other cities, has to file for the city's business license tax before starting. That's separate from the state contractor license, which the Contractors State License Board issues. We're fully licensed and insured.
What are the steps to replace a concrete patio?
We break out the old slab, dig out and pack the base, and set the forms and usually rebar, the steel bars that keep the pieces together if the slab cracks. Then we pour, finish and cut the joints, let it cure and haul the old concrete away. To get started, send the form on our contact page.
Do you guarantee your concrete work?
Yes, our work is satisfaction guaranteed. The best way I know to keep that promise is to settle the details before the pour, so we agree on what's being built before anyone picks up a shovel.
Will my new concrete slab crack like the old one?
It can, since concrete shrinks as it cures, but a slab on a packed base with control joints, grooves we cut so it cracks where we choose, usually breaks along those lines instead of across the middle. We also try not to pour in the midday heat, because a top that dries too fast can turn weak and dusty later.
Do I need a permit for concrete work in Newport Beach?
It depends on the job, and we check that before we start rather than guess. City guidance says new construction needs a building permit and lists a few exceptions, but even then other agencies may need to review the work. If you want to ask the city yourself, its Permit Center issues all types of construction permits.
